Nerds for McCain

MSNBC (with the exception of Olbermann and Maddow) has gotten downright cuddly with the McCain camp over the past couple weeks. Rumor is that Tom Brokaw has been trying to court them because they have been angry over coverage. (Cue violins.)

For the past two mornings McCain has appeared on Morning Joke, and he appeared at least once last week. Last week he accused Mika of "being in the tank for Obama" and so this week everybody played nice with the old man, not even challenging him on all the "pork" in the Bailout bill they had been railing about all morning. Mika even thanked him "for putting yourself out there." Jeez! I thought that's what you did when you ran for president - put yourself out there. It's really getting pathetic on Morning Joke.

This afternoon on Hardball, which was staged outside the college campus where the debate is being held, it was obvious there were many more Obama supporters than McCain supporters. When Chris Matthews approached the crowd he came across mostly Obama supporters with a few undecideds. Tom Brokaw must have put out the word that Chris better find some McCain supporters to interview, so sure enough five minutes before the show ended he had four of the nerdiest looking kids lined up to say why they supported McCain.

Basically, they said he had more experience and he was better on the economy. (Really?) One said something about taxes, and one said he really, really liked Sarah Palin. Yeh, that kind of really liked. These are the kids who are still parroting what their parents say, the kind of kids who don't understand the Obama phenomenon and the kind of profound change he represents. These are the kids who are still stuck in the past like McCain.
